Colegio Ruta de la Plata
Ruta de la Plata is a state subsided school located in Almendralejo a city in the southwest of Spain. It is a 10-year-old school with modern facilities. There are three privately-financed Nursery classrooms, six Senior Kindergarten Education classes, thirteen Primary Education classes, eight Secondary Education classes and one special needs class. We have 720 students and our staff consists of 48 teachers. We have two directors, one for Primary and one for Secondary
Our motivation to join this project arises with the need to improve science learning. We want to change the way Science and Technology are taught, with a renewed emphasis on inquiry-based approaches designed to enhance pupils’ interest in science and improve their learning, since we think that the ‘future of Europe’ requires a renewed pedagogy.
Another aim of this project is to encourage students in STEM. We are aware of the need to engage girls in science. This is why we are part of an ongoing KA1 project standing out the role of women in society, and in which we have focused our attention on how STEM areas are taught and how to involve female students in those areas. Last year we coordinated the eTwinning project ‘Coding and English’, based on the creation of games through programming with Scratch. This year we are also coordinating the above mentioned eTwinning project with the our partner schools applying for this project
